End the Wait Program
Federal funding for senior nutrition programs has remained stagnant at 2024 levels, leaving organizations that rely on these funds with months-long waiting lists and stringent eligibility criteria. Because Meals on Wheels South Florida receives no federal funding, we rely entirely on the generosity of private donors, foundations, and corporations.

This financial independence gives us the freedom to use less restrictive criteria; for example, we consider a senior homebound if they require assistance to get to a doctor or the grocery store. This flexibility inspired our End the Wait Program, which serves individuals on federal waiting lists or whose situations are dire but do not meet strict government requirements.

Our process begins with a Social Worker who assesses each client’s unique needs. If a senior is eligible for federal aid but placed on a waiting list, our services can begin immediately to bridge the gap, ensuring they are fed until government funds become available.

For those who remain ineligible due to their financial status, our Cost Share Program provides a vital alternative, using trained, background-checked volunteers to deliver both nutritional support and human connection.

In addition, we will soon implement a sliding-scale option to ensure more vulnerable seniors can access the peace of mind and safety that Meals on Wheels South Florida delivery provides.

YOU can help us grow this program so that vulnerable seniors in Broward County NEVER have to live with the stress and fear of not knowing where their next meal will come from as they wait to reach the top of the list. Your donation will be combined with those of individuals, foundations, and corporations that share your belief that no senior should go hungry!
